Sankoboa Ghana’s president, Vivian Annan, joined committee members Kate Boadi and Mary Appiah-Mensah for a community outreach that reached 300 families. The event was led by Akua, one of our members, and organized in partnership with Akua Academy — an organization currently working to acquire land to build vocational schools in the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions of Ghana. We’re excited about the possibility of a closer partnership with them in the near future.
To bring some fun into the day, Vivian put her own spin on a jollof rice competition by making goat jollof — and it was a hit with everyone who tried it. Alongside the jollof, we also gave away fried bake and codfish, a beloved dish from Trinidad and Tobago that one of our members has been selling every few months for the past two years to help raise funds for Sankoboa.
Beyond the food and the fun, the day was about the families we came to serve. Mary Appiah-Mensah, our event planner, put it best: “It was a fulfilling endeavor to see the faces of children receiving shoes.”
Outreach days like this one continue to bring Sankoboa Ghana the exposure and support we need to keep growing — and we’re grateful to everyone who came out, cooked, served, and gave.
